This industry segment represents organizations involved in the production of computer servers that are either based on a local area network (LAN), a computer running networking or administrative software that controls access to its resources over an organizations computer network, or based on the Internet, Intranet or Extranet. Servers typically consist of a computer, series of computers or programs that responds to commands from a client (desktop computer, browser, etc.). For example, when the user of a client computer clicks on a www/URL hyperlink imbedded in document/HTML page or a folder in file management system (such as MS Explorer, Windows Explorer or Netscape), the user initiates a command that directs the user from the client machine to server that contain an archive of data, document, or program file, that can then be retrieved by the user on client computer from the server. This type of user interaction is commonly referred to as client/server computing.
